Rajinikanth's Jailer 2 box office collection crosses ₹600 crore worldwide in eight days

Advertisment

Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 has crossed ₹600 crore at the worldwide box office within eight days of release. By the end of Thursday, October 22, the film’s worldwide gross had reached ₹606.05 crore, according to box office tracker Sacnilk.

That makes it the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2026 so far, a remarkable position for a film barely a week old. Few sequels outrun both their own predecessor and a rival superstar’s biggest hit, and Jailer 2 has done it before its second weekend.

In only eight days, the sequel has passed the full lifetime worldwide collection of the original Jailer from 2023, which finished its run at ₹604.74 crore. It has also moved ahead of Leo, the Vijay starrer that collected ₹605.90 crore worldwide during its entire theatrical run.

Day eight box office numbers

The film earned ₹17.15 crore net in India on its eighth day, collected from 13,241 shows across its Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Kannada versions. That took its total India net collection to ₹334.35 crore, while the domestic gross stood at ₹391.55 crore.

Overseas markets added ₹5 crore on the day, lifting the international total to ₹214.50 crore. Overall occupancy on Thursday was 25.2 percent.

The home market provided the bigger share of money, but the overseas contribution tells its own story. More than a third of the worldwide gross has come from outside India, underlining how strongly Rajinikanth’s films travel with audiences in the Gulf, Southeast Asia, North America and beyond.

Tamil version leads

As expected, the Tamil version did the heavy lifting at home. It contributed ₹10.75 crore of the day’s India net earnings, comfortably ahead of the Telugu version at ₹3.60 crore and the Hindi version at ₹2.40 crore.

The Kannada version added ₹40 lakh. Tamil Nadu was the strongest state market, which is no surprise for a Nelson Dilipkumar film built around Rajinikanth’s screen presence.

The spread across four language versions shows the scale of the release. The Hindi version alone ran in more than five thousand shows on day eight, giving the film a genuine pan-India footprint rather than a purely regional one.

Weekday dip

Thursday’s India collection was 39.1 percent lower than Wednesday’s ₹28.15 crore, and the daily numbers have been sliding since a huge opening day of ₹59.70 crore net. Trade watchers are not reading too much into the fall.

Big event films almost always front-load their earnings, with families and fans rushing in during the first weekend. Weekday figures then settle lower, which is exactly what the day-eight numbers show.

The second weekend will decide whether Jailer 2 keeps marching toward the ₹1,000 crore conversation or levels off as a very large, but not record-smashing, hit. Either way, the film confirms that Rajinikanth, well into his seventies, remains one of the most bankable stars in Indian cinema, and it reminds exhibitors that event releases still pull crowds into halls at a time when streaming tempts many viewers to stay home.
